Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

8 common questions answered

1. What are the known NHTSA recalls for a 2018 Lexus GS 350?
The NHTSA has issued 11 recalls affecting the 2018 Lexus GS 350, primarily involving the fuel pump/fuel tank system and several legacy recalls for steering and brake components. Summary: Multiple fuel pump-related recalls (NHTSA campaign numbers include 20TA02 / 20LA01 and related expansions) warn that a failing fuel pump or related fuel tank components can cause the engine to stall while driving, increasing crash risk. Other recalls include a brake pedal load-sensing switch issue (model year 2013 recall) and a VGRS steering ECU programming issue that could leave the steering wheel off-center on restart for affected early-2013 vehicles. If you want confirmation for your VIN, bring your vehicle to our service drive and we will verify NHTSA status at no cost.
2. How do I check if my 2018 Lexus GS 350 has an open recall?
You can check your VIN on NHTSA.gov or bring the vehicle to Nalley Lexus Smyrna and we will check for open recalls for free. If you prefer to check online first, visit NHTSA.gov and enter your 17-character VIN; our team can also verify that information and explain any next steps when you schedule service. Owners may also contact Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987 for recall notifications and reference campaign numbers listed in NHTSA records.
3. How much does a 2018 Lexus GS 350 recall repair cost?
Recall repairs are performed at no charge to the vehicle owner when covered by the manufacturer recall. All recall repairs for the fuel pump, brake switch, steering ECU updates, and related fuel tank actions will be completed free of charge by Lexus dealers using OEM parts and factory programming. We also offer service financing options at Nalley Lexus Smyrna for non-recall maintenance so you can get necessary service now and pay later.
4. Can I get my 2018 Lexus GS 350 recall fixed at an independent shop or do I need a dealer?
Manufacturer recall repairs must be completed by an authorized Lexus dealer to ensure the factory remedy and documentation are properly applied. Independent shops cannot perform official recall remedies on manufacturer records; only a certified franchise dealer like Nalley Lexus Smyrna can apply the OEM fix, update manufacturer records, and ensure warranty/insurance recognition. For safety and resale protection, bring your vehicle to our factory-trained technicians who use Lexus diagnostic tools and OEM replacement parts.
5. How long does a 2018 Lexus GS 350 recall repair take?
Most recall repairs take between one and several hours, but actual time varies by recall type and parts availability. Fuel pump assembly replacements may require more time depending on parts availability; Nalley Lexus Smyrna will advise expected turnaround when you schedule service. Interim notices were mailed for some fuel-pump recalls while remedies were developed; if a remedy is available, dealers will replace the component free of charge as soon as parts are on-hand.
6. Does an open recall affect my 2018 Lexus GS 350's trade-in or resale value?
Unresolved recalls can negatively affect trade-in value and buyer confidence because many dealers and private buyers check NHTSA records before purchase. Resolving recalls at Nalley Lexus Smyrna protects resale value and provides documented factory repairs that reassure buyers and appraisers; you can start a trade-in appraisal at sell your car online. Addressing recalls also reduces potential insurance complications and inspection issues related to vehicle safety compliance.
7. Can I fail a state inspection because of an unresolved 2018 Lexus GS 350 recall?
Some safety-related recalls can affect inspection outcomes if the defect impacts required safety systems; it depends on state inspection criteria. If the recall involves brakes, steering, or fuel system functionality, it may be flagged during a safety inspection; having the dealer perform the free recall repair prevents inspection failures and reduces safety risk. Contact Nalley Lexus Smyrna or schedule appointment and we will check NHTSA status and advise whether a recall could influence your next inspection.
