6 common questions answered
Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2022 Lexus RX 350 has its oil changed?Yes, the oil filter should be replaced with the oil according to the manufacturer’s published maintenance schedule.
For this model year, the manufacturer’s schedule calls for oil filter replacement every 10,000 miles. Replacing the filter with the oil helps keep debris from loading the filter across multiple oil changes.
- Filter replacement is performed alongside the oil.
- The filter holds debris carried by engine oil.
- The filter seal is checked for leaks after the engine runs.
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2022 Lexus RX 350?The service includes a filter matched to the engine, a new drain plug gasket or washer where used, and a post-service leak check.
The replacement filter is selected for the engine actually fitted to the vehicle. After installation, the engine is run so the filter seal can be checked for leaks.
- Engine-matched oil filter
- New drain plug gasket or washer where applicable
- Leak check at the filter seal after the engine runs
What happens if the oil filter on a 2022 Lexus RX 350 is not replaced?A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing oil to circulate without filtration.
The engine still receives oil, but it does not receive filtered oil while the bypass is open. Debris can therefore continue circulating, which is why filter replacement belongs with the oil service rather than being stretched across two changes.
- Oil carries debris away during engine operation.
- A loaded filter activates the bypass valve.
- The manufacturer’s schedule calls for replacement every 10,000 miles.
Does a 2022 Lexus RX 350 need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter is matched to the 3,457 cc, 3.5-liter six-cylinder V6 engine.
Filters are not interchangeable across engines because filtration and fit depend on the engine’s design. The appropriate filter is selected for the engine actually installed in this Lexus SUV, without relying on a generic fit.
- The vehicle uses a 3.5-liter engine.
- The engine has six cylinders in a V6 layout.
- The replacement filter is matched to that engine.
Can the oil be changed on a 2022 Lexus RX 350 without changing the filter? The oil can be changed separately, but the filter should be replaced with the oil under the manufacturer’s published schedule.
A filter that remains in service continues holding the debris collected during earlier operation. Once it loads, its bypass valve can allow unfiltered oil to circulate, so combining the two services supports continued filtration.
- The manufacturer specifies filter replacement every 10,000 miles.
- The filter captures debris carried by the oil.
- The filter seal receives a leak check after the engine runs.
